Head-to-head· This is the first time these teams meet at the Club World Championship.
· UPCN San Juan have played a Russian opposition once at the Club World Championship. Last year they lost 3-1 against Belogorie Belgorod in the semifinals, who eventually also won the final.
· Zenit Kazan meet an Argentine side for the first time at the World Championship. They have played an opponent from the Americas five times and won all five matches, including both matches in 2015 against Sada Cruzeiro and Capitanes Arecibo.
Zenit Kazan· This is Kazan's fourth participation at the World Championship and they have now reached the semifinals in each of the four years: 2009, 2010, 2012 and 2015.
· They lost all three previous semifinals and have yet to reach the final.
· The reigning European champions are aiming for their first top-two finish, after bronze medals in 2009 and 2011 and a fourth place in 2012.
· A Russian side has reached the final of the World Championship twice before. In 2013, Lokomotiv Novosibirsk lost against Sada Cruzeiro (3-0) and in 2014, Belogorie Belgorod were victorious 3-1 against Al-Rayyan.
· They can win three matches in a row in the competition for the second time and for the first time since 2009-2011, when they won their last match in 2009 (bronze medal match) and their first two in 2011.
UPCN San Juan· The 2015 South American champions have reached the final four for the third edition in a row. They are hoping to progress to the final for the first time. UPCN recorded a fourth place finish in 2013 and grabbed a bronze medal in 2014.
· UPCN can become the first Argentine side to reach the final of the men's Club World Championship.
· They lost their last group match against Paykan Tehran and can lose back-to-back matches for the second time ever and for the first time since they lost the semifinal and bronze medal match in 2013.
· They are three sets shy of losing their 25th at the World Championship. They have won 25 sets, meaning a 3-0 defeat will level them in sets differential in the history of the Club World Championship.
