Head-to-head· UPCN and Paykan Tehran will meet for the first time in the competition.
· UPCN have won their only previous club world championships meeting with an Iranian side, a 3-0 win against Kalleh Mazandaran in 2013.
· Paykan Tehran defeated Drean Bolivar in five sets in 2010, after trailing 2-0, the only Argentinian side they previously met in the competition.
UPCN San Juan· UPCN qualified for the semifinals after beating Ahly Sporting Club 3-0 in their opening match on Wednesday.
· The 2015 South American champions have reached the final four for the third edition in a row. They are hoping to progress to the final for the first time. UPCN recorded a fourth place finish in 2013 and grabbed a bronze medal in 2014.
· UPCN have won six of their seven preliminary round matches in the competition. Their only group stage defeat came against Energy T.I. Diatec Trentino (3-2) in last year's edition.
Paykan Tehran· UPCN's win over Ahly Sporting Club on Wednesday also pushed Paykan Tehran into the semifinals.
· The side from Iran kicked off their campaign with a straight set victory over Al Ahly SC on Tuesday. They can win their opening two group stage matches for the first time.
· Paykan Tehran have qualified for the semifinals for the third time after 2009 and 2010. On both occasions they lost in straight sets against Trentino Betclic.
