Men's Club World Championship grows popularity in Brazil

 

Hosts Sada Cruzeiro celebrate winning the 2015 edition of the FIVB Volleyball Men's Club World Championship

Lausanne, Switzerland, February 1, 2016 - The 2015 FIVB Volleyball Club World Championships were discussed at a meeting of the FIVB Sports Events Council in Lausanne on Monday and Tuesday. Reports showed continued growth in the number of spectators at the men's event. Belo Horizonte was hosting the tournament for the second consecutive year after Brazil also hosted the event in Betim in 2013.

2015 FIVB Volleyball Club World Championships

The 2015 men's event, held from October 27-31, featured six teams including hosts Sada Cruzeiro Volei, Capitanes de Arecibo from Puerto Rico, Zenit Kazan from Russia, Ahly Sporting Club from Egypt, Paykan Tehran from Iran and UPCN San Juan from Argentina.

FIVB Volleyball Men's Club World Championship

Eczacibasi VitrA became the third team from Istanbul to win the Women's Club World Championship, which was held in Zürich, Switzerland from May 6-10 for the third consecutive year. Christiane Fürst (Eczacibasi) also became the first player to claim gold medals at three different editions of the competition (after wins with Fenerbahce in 2010 in Doha, Qatar and with VakifBank in 2013 in Zürich).

The women's competition featured several innovations, including a 14 player roster on court. There were also technological innovations including the Challenge System, referee communication devices and tablets.
