Lomas and Taubate advance to South American club semifinals

 

Sada Cruzeiro continues to dominate the South American Club Championship by notching its third straight victory on Friday

San Juan, Argentina, February 13, 2015 – Lomas Volleyball of Argentina and Brazilian side Taubate / Funvic made the cut for the South American Men’s Club Championship semifinals on Friday, registering wins over Chilean club Linares and Bolivian side San Martin, respectively. 

Lomas Volleyball defeated Linares in straight sets (25-18, 25-18, 25-17), while Taubate / Funvic dominated San Martin 3-0 (25-5, 25-6, 25-11). 

Marcelo Silva helped Lomas Volleyball to victory and advance to the semifinals against Sada Cruzeiro on Saturday. Tomas Paraguirre scored 12 points for Linares. 

“We are happy because we achieved our goal of qualifying to the semifinals,” Lomas Volleyball opposite Lucas Tell said. “We’ll see what happens tomorrow, but any Brazilian team we play against will surely be difficult. We’ll just play and enjoy the game.” 

Meanwhile, Sada Cruzeiro recorded its third consecutive victory in the tournament, beating Bohemian Club of Uruguay in straight sets (25-11, 25-9, 25-15). The current South American champions already qualified after finishing first in Pool B. Douglas Cordeiro top scored with 14 points. 

Taubate / Funvic closed the day with a victory over San Martin, taking the final slot in the semifinals. Junior Moreira notched 12 points for Taubate. 

“The match was not as easy as it seemed,” Taubate’s Deivid Costa said. “We trained a lot in advance and focused on winning. Now, we should start thinking about UPCN, it will be a tough game and we expect a full stadium – supporting our next opponent.” 

The fifth to sixth place classification match will be between Linares de Chile and Bohemian Club of Uruguay before the semifinal matches take place on Saturday.
